Rest in Peace Mack Couch 1927 – 2016

A memorial service was  held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 1:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with a reception immediately following the service. Family and loved ones will gather in Orange Beach AL Saturday Dec 17 for a respectful spreading of ashes in the Gulf of Mexico near where his family vacationed through the years.

Born on June 4, 1927, Mr. Couch was the son of Snowden and Ollie Mae Lawler Couch.  Mr. Couch attended Tech High School in Atlanta where he was a 4 Star Athlete.  After school he enlisted in the U. S. Army and trained in meteorology.  After being honorably discharged Mack was recruited by the Milwaukee Braves where he was a third baseman.  After a baseball career ending knee injury Mr. Couch married the former Jane O’Brien and started their family.  He had a successful career in the fruit sales and distribution with Standard Fruit in New Orleans.  Later Mack was offered the position as VP of sales with Del Monte where he worked until retirement.  After retirement Mack moved back to his roots in the Atlanta area.  Mack moved to the Orchard Community in 1993 where he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies for many years.  Mack and his wife Betty traveled extensively throughout the U. S. and also visited some European Countries.  They enjoyed entertaining in their home, socializing and spending time with those they loved.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Couch is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Jane O’Brien Couch,  second wife Betty Broussard Couch, brother Jack Couch, sister Martha Couch Thomas, brother in law Gabe Thomas and nephew Wayne Thomas.

Survivors include daughters Terri Couch of Denver, Colorado and Liz Couch Kops of Woodstock, son Greg Couch (Sharron) of New Orleans, Louisiana, grandchildren Lyndsey Couch Fairchild, Michael Couch, Jonathan Kops (Lindsey), and Alex “The Great One” Kops, great grandchildren Courtney Fairchild and Colby Fairchild as well as niece Marsha Thomas of McDonough.

James “Marc”, age 46, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Prattville Baptist Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Prattville Memorial Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Cheeley was born April 7, 1969, on Beale AFB, California. He worked at Albertson’s Supermarkets in several Southern California locations. He married Tracie Lynn Hamel Weyers in November 1991; they were married 23 years. The couple moved to Jacksonville, Florida and both entered a CSX Railroad training program. Marc worked for CSX as a Dispatcher, Conductor, and proud Engineer. Marc loved the band Blue October, kayaking, fishing, and earning a living for his family at CSX. Marc succeeded in life by his wife, Tracie; sons, Ryan and Carson; his mother, B. Lorene Cheeley; and father, James Cheeley of Warner Robins, GA; his sister, Kimberly (Herschel) Haynes of Suffolk, VA; nephews, Joshua and Noah; niece, Sierra; great-niece, Faithe; and numerous extended family members & friends
